Candlestick Press is an independent publisher based in Nottingham, UK. Since 2008 we’ve been publishing poetry pamphlets aimed equally at people familiar with poetry and those who are not. Our pamphlets make an ideal alternative to a mainstream greetings card. They have matching envelopes and bookmarks left blank for your message and are excellent companions on boring journeys or good for a bedtime read. We want everyone to have some poetry in their lives!
In 2015 we sold around 60,000 poetry pamphlets, which means that over half a million poems were read ‘instead of a card’: this makes us very happy.
WHO SAYS POETRY DOESN'T SELL?
In 2010 I met Jenny Swann at a presentation I was giving at Nottingham Trent University. Jenny was looking for someone to help with the commercial side of her small but successful independent publishing house, Candlestick Press. I was looking for some way to combine my love of poetry with business development – and so a productive partnership was forged. Jenny and I worked together to develop the press until May 2016, when Jenny stepped down for personal reasons. I now own and run the business, working from Nottingham but with distribution partner Central Books in London.
